About Karifa

Karifa is a dedicated lawyer with notable experience in civil litigation, construction law, and criminal defence. He vigorously advocates for his clients, negotiates to resolve legal disputes cost-effectively, and commits himself to protecting his clients’ individual rights.

Experience

Prior to founding Soba Law, Karifa honed his litigation knowledge and skills at a well-respected Ottawa based firm, handling diverse matters such as defamation, fraud, arbitrations, medical malpractice, negligence, breach of contract, and construction claims.

Before that, Karifa completed his articles at a top criminal defence firm in Toronto that focuses on jury trials. He helped defend homicide, assault, and large drug and firearm trafficking cases, and used creative legal arguments to assist clients at the Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Karifa is particularly adept at litigating fraud claims. Before law school, Karifa worked as a fraud analyst for almost ten years at some of Canada’s biggest banks. There, he identified complex multi-million-dollar fraud rings, and was recognized as a top fraud investigator.

Karifa has an honours degree in philosophy from Toronto Metropolitan University, where he worked as a graduate assistant, and sat on the Philosophy Program Advisory Council. He graduated from McGill University with a J.D. and a Bachelor of Civil Law.

Karifa is fluent in French and English.
